Last February 23-25, 2011,

Last Sept. 22-24, 2010, I and my fellow MSME's from La Union and Pangasinan underwent the 3rd phase of the Training Enhancement for Competitiveness in Harnessing Innovative Entrepreneurs Project (TECHIE) - Electronic Brochures/Bulletin, a joint program of DTI - La Union and DTI-Region 1 Offices, Philippine National IT Standards Foundation (PhilNITS) and the North Luzon Growth Quadrangle Area - Program Management Office. Thru this training I was able to create our firm's electronic brochure and I can now improve further our website. My sincere appreciation to the said agencies!

It is a reality that almost all businesses especially these times are having their ups and downs. The high and unstable prices of fuel products are triggering the increasing prices of commodities and services.

During the early years of our chicha-corn business, it generated very good profit compared today. The reasons are: there were only few competitors those times and the prices of basic commodities and services were much lower. And so the business thrived.

Then as years passed, our chicha-corn business felt gradually the pressure of the whips of the  increase of prices of our basic commodities and services. And more competitors are coming out in the market outlets.

These days, our chicha-corn business is suffering because of the very high prices of our main raw material, the white glutinous corn. And it is not only our chicha-corn firm that is affected but also the others in our region.

But then, life must go on... and so does the business. If there's a will, there's a way... We believe that there are still many ways for the industry to stay put.

Our family has been in the chicha-corn business for already 15 years. And it is providing us fair income. During our full operations we employ 25 to 30 workers. Our main raw material is white glutinous corn. And we buy approximately 70 to 100 tons of corn annually from various farmers in La Union, Ilocos Sur, Abra and Cagayan... It is nice to feel that this business is helping others as employees, suppliers and buyers.. But then, just like any other business, there's a lot of responsibilities to do and to comply with in order to stay put. Moreover, sufficient capital, efficient workers, good-paying market outlets, continuing product development, patience, hard work and righteousness are needed.

Chicha-corn can be eaten by the general public. It can be eaten anywhere anytime of the day especially during snack time. It is enjoyable to serve it at home, at outings, at parties, in the bars, etc... To maintain the freshness and crunchiness of chicha-corn, it should be stored in airtight container.

Chicha-corn is a healthful and nutritious snack food. Is is processed from the very popular and tasty white glutinous corn. The nutrition facts printed on the packaging show the detailed nutritional value.

Many are asking "what is chicha-corn?"... Well, chicha-corn is a variant of cornick. Generally, cornick is fried white glutinous corn kernels seasoned with various ingredients and flavoring. Chicha-corn is produced by boiling and drying white glutinous corn kernels followed by deep-frying, then seasoned with various ingredients and flavoring. So, cornick products vary in the mode of processing prior to deep-frying. Chicha-corn is a delicious and nutritious snack food.

I'm Emma Teresa S. Mariñas, the author of this website. I co-own/manage this small scale enterprise, Agoo Chicha-corn & Food Products, with my husband , Edwin P. Mariñas.

Our motto is "If we can't find jobs, we create jobs".

Our warm and sincere gratitude  to the Department of Trade & Industry - most especially to DTI La Union
Provincial Office and to DTI Region 1 Office, to the North Luzon Growth Quadrangle Area (North Quad) - Program Management Office, and to the Philippine National IT Standards (PhilNITS) Foundation, for giving us, entrepreneurs, series of trainings on computer literacy and applications, etc. Thus enabling us to create our own website and can now say "Hello World!...".

Edwin and I are publishing this website to promote our products with the aim of acquiring more buyers not just nationwide but also worldwide. And alongside with this is our goal to inspire and encourage also other micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) especially the beginners to be dedicated and cooperative businessmen to attain something. MSME's should not hesitate to approach the proper government agencies and seek assistance to address their concerns and issues. MSME's should welcome the various assistance and programs that the concerned government agencies are offering them on their platter for their benefits, just like what we did to this particular program that DTI offered us.

    God bless us all!
